A 62-year-old hunter survived six days with no water last week by eating ants in the Great Victoria Desert of Western Australia.

According to CNN, Reginald Foggerdy went missing Wednesday after chasing a camel he was hunting into the Outback while wearing only a T-shirt, shorts, and flip-flops.

Police Superintendent Andy Greatwood said a massive manhunt aided by Aboriginal trackers luckily found him "extremely dehydrated, a bit delusional" on Tuesday.

"His last couple of days of survival were achieved by lying down under a tree and eating black ants," said Greatwood. "That's the level of survival that Mr. Foggerdy has gone to."

The police and tracking force tweeted a picture of a light footprint left by Foggerdy that was used to help track him down.

Foggerdy endured temperatures of more than 90 degrees Fahrenheit, surrounded by red sand dunes and stony plains.

Foggerdy's wife, Arlyn, cried upon the news that he was found alive.

His son Phil, 11, said he "thought it was just a small thing" when the news first came of his father's disappearance. "When he was lost for a few more days I started getting worried. I’m so happy they found him," he said, according to The Australian.

Foggerdy received first aid treatment at the site, and was flown by Royal Flying Doctor to a hospital in Kalgoorlie.

"I’m so impressed with the service. They are just amazing people out there and the friends that I’ve got I love dearly. They are so special for what they’ve done," Foggerdy's sister, Christine Ogden, said of the search and rescue teams.
