A Las Vegas homeowner pranked a thief last week by leaving a package filled with dog poop on his front porch.

Eric Burdo, fed up with the recent uptick in thieves swiping packages delivered to people's front porches, said it took several days for a thief to finally take the bait. His new surveillance cameras caught a man sprinting to his porch to snatch the box on Thursday, KTNV reported.

"I was kind of excited and I just kept replaying it," Burdo told the station. "I just kind of wanted to give them back something."

The thief helped him to adjust his security cameras too, Burdo said. The front door camera angle caught one person while the garage camera identified an accomplice.

"Somebody had broken into the car when we first moved here," he told KTNV. "That's the main reason why I got the cameras."

A recent study from insuranceQuotes.com estimated that 23 million Americans have had packages stolen from their homes after deliveries, according to NBC News. That total is expected to rise as more residents buy items online.

A frustrated Washington, D.C., couple left a package full of poop for bandits over the holiday season last year, according to WJLA-TV.

In that incident, the woman and her boyfriend set the fake package outside of their home with security cameras rolling after a thief took a delivery from their home just days before.

"Obviously, it made me really mad," the woman told WJLA-TV last year. "I worked hard, saved my money, bought something and then it was just gone . . . I had originally wanted to put a note in the box that said, 'Surprise! Please stop stealing my crap.'"

NBC News reported that the United Parcel Service announced over the summer that it is expanding its UPS Access Point network, which allows for package pickup and drop off at local neighborhood convenience and grocery stores, dry cleaners, and delicatessens.
