The Hollywood producer behind classics like "Pretty Woman" and "Fight Club" revealed this week that he acted as a spy and arms dealer for Israel throughout the '70s and '80s.

Arnon Milchan, an Israeli-born businessman, detailed his clandestine affairs in a recent interview with the Israel Channel 2 program "Uvda." The 68-year-old, who also owns New Regency Films, claims he was dispatched to smuggle technology to help Israel enrich its nuclear weapons program, according to USA Today.

"I did it for my country and I'm proud of it," Milchan said. "If people knew how many times I risked my life, back and forth, again and again, for my country."

The producer reportedly worked for the now-defunct Bureau of Scientific Relations, also called Lekem, according to The Associated Press. The department disbanded in 1987 after Jonathan Pollard, an American Navy intelligence analyst, was convicted of funneling classified information to Israel.

Milchan has been surrounded by spy speculation for years but was able to rise above the rumors with his work.

"When I came to Hollywood I detached myself completely from my physical activities to dedicate myself to what I really wanted — filmmaking," he said. "[But] sometimes it gets mixed up."

Milchan has more than 120 film credits to his name since the 1970s, and often works closely with directors like Martin Scorsese, Roman Polanski, and Oliver Stone, and actors like Russell Crowe, Ben Affleck, and Robert De Niro.

"I had heard but I wasn't sure," De Niro said of Milchan's spy activities on the "Uvda" program. "I did ask him once and he told me that he was an Israeli and of course he would do these things for his country."
