A voluntary herbal tea recall was announced by CVS Pharmacy on Sunday after it was notified by the tea's manufacturer that one of its ingredients may be contaminated with Salmonella.

According to statement posted on the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's website, CVS is pulling cases of its Gold Emblem Abound Organic Spiced Herbal Tea off its shelves at stores across the country. CVS reported that about 200 units of the product in question had been sold before the recall.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Salmonella causes diarrhea, fever, and abdominal cramps 12 to 72 hours after infection. In some cases, those affected with diarrhea from Salmonella have needed to be hospitalized after the disease spread from the intestines to the blood stream, causing more severe ailments.

About 1.2 million people fall ill to Salmonella each year in the United States, with 450 dying from non-typhoidal Salmonella, reported the CDC.

CVS said that it is not aware of any illnesses connected with the recall. The manufacturer informed CVS that an ingredient produced by the manufacturer's raw material supplier recently tested positive for Salmonella in another product. The Golden Emblem product used the same ingredient, read the FDA statement.

The Gold Emblem Abound Organic Spiced Herbal Tea was packed in 1.4 ounce cartons and recalled units have a single best by date of "18 Mar 2018" with a UPC code 0 50428 541043.

Customers who bought the product in question should discard it or return it to CVS for a refund.
