Girl Falls From Six Flags Ride, Crowd Below Catches Her

A 14-year-old Delaware girl received only minor injuries when she fell 25 feet from a gondola ride at Six Flags in Queensbury New York on Saturday night.

The teen from Greenwood, Delaware, who was not identified, was seen on video dangling from the Sky Ride, terrified and screaming, CNN reported. The crowd below called to her to let go, that they would catch her, and that’s exactly what happened.

The girl received a minor injury to her back when she was caught by several passersby, and she was resting comfortably at the hospital, according to the New York Daily News. One of the men who caught her also injured his back but has been released from the hospital.

It wasn’t clear how the girl came to be hanging from the ride. She was riding with her younger brother, also not identified, who was strapped in, CNN reported. The operator stopped the ride after learning a rider was in trouble.

The ride was checked after the incident and found to be in good working order with no malfunctions or safety issues, CNN reported.

The incident was filmed by someone whose family was on a later gondola on the same ride, The Washington Post reported.

Twitter users were relieved the girl was caught and was not seriously hurt.

Others on Twitter wondered about whether the rides were safe or what she was doing to slip through the bar.
