George Jung Says He Wrote 'Blow' Sequel in Federal Prison

Convicted drug dealer George Jung, who was the subject of the 1993 book and 2001 Johnny Depp movie "Blow," was released from federal prison this week with a sequel in his hand, according to the celebrity website TMZ.

Jung, 71, was moved to a halfway house after serving time in the Federal Correctional Institute in Fort Dix, New Jersey, according to The Associated Press. He was sent to prison in 1997 for conspiring to possess marijuana with the intent to distribute.

The AP reported he was picked up in 1995 in East Dennis, Massachusetts, after authorities found almost 500 pounds of marijuana. Jung is expected to be released from the halfway house in November.

His tale of an American contact for the Colombian cocaine cartel in the late 1970s and early 1980s was turned into a successful book and movie.

"A rep for Jung says his new book, entitled 'Heavy,' will detail more of George's drug smuggling missions in the '80s and feature some of the same 'Blow' characters," TMZ reported. "Not surprisingly, we're told a movie production company's already interested in the book, which comes out next month."

"Blow" made $52.9 million domestically and another $30.2 million overseas in 2001 on a $30 million budget, according to BoxOfficeMojo.com. The movie turned into one of the most talked about films of the year.

"If  'GoodFellas' and 'Traffic' are the class bookends of the last decade in drug cinema, 'Blow' scorches the screen with a (expletive) bravado all its own," wrote Rolling Stone reviewer Peter Travers. "Smart, sexy, funny and dangerous, this high-wire act is a movie and a half. … Depp steps up to a once-in-a-lifetime role and bats it out of the park. And if you don't get the fuss about Spain's voluptuous Penelope Cruz based on her blah U.S. films, her take on George's wife, Mirtha, will turn you around."

The Fashion Times reported that Depp is currently filming "Black Mass," which is being directed by Scott Cooper. The film is a biopic of mafia kingpin James "Whitey" Bulger, who was convicted last year for 11 murders by a federal grand jury.
