Hollywood Pursues 'Foxy Knoxy'

Amanda Knox may be in store for something more than the freedom that recently greeted her when she arrived in her hometown of Seattle.

The 24-year-old woman, who returned to the United States after an appeals court in Italy overturned her murder conviction, may find that a large number of offers await her as well, which could easily result in some cool Hollywood cash.

Knox spent nearly four years in an Italian prison, but she may soon be fielding an assortment of lucrative proposals that would include book deals, television interviews, made-for-TV fare, and first film rights.

The Lifetime cable network already aired a made-for-TV movie back in February 2011 titled “Amanda Knox: Murder on Trial in Italy,” which stars Hayden Panettiere. An update and re-airing of the film is reportedly in the works.

One prominent television news executive has stated that Knox is a “high priority get” for a primetime interview.

Some of TV's best known news anchors, including ABC’s Elizabeth Vargas and CBS’s Peter Van Sant, were in Perugia, Italy, prior to the announcement of the appeals court. Interviews were conducted with those in Knox's extended family who were willing to participate.

An ABC crew reportedly accompanied members of the Knox family in the final visit that was made to see Knox in her Capanne prison.

Immediately after the Italian appeals court issued its ruling, the term “foxy knoxy” became one of the top trending topics on Twitter. The nickname had been given to Knox by the European press during the initial murder trial.

Evidently, Knox is keenly aware of her emerging media image. According to the Daily Mail, her prison diary contains a passage that refers to the “Amanda fad” that was already cycling through the media.

“If I was ugly, would they write wishing this encouragement?” Knox wrote.

“I don't think so. Jeez! I'm not really that good looking. People are acting like I'm the prettiest thing since Helen of Troy,” she continued.

Like it or not, appearance is and always will be a major factor in the Hollywood equation.
