Two people in a vehicle attempted to ram the gate at the National Security Agency's facility at Fort Meade in Maryland on Monday morning, igniting a fire fight that left one dead and two injured.

CBS News confirmed that the guards did shoot at least one individual during the incident, and that there were two vehicles with damage outside the gate, including one police vehicle.

A U.S. law enforcement official told CBS that the two men were dressed as women.

Emergency responders are on the scene, and federal law enforcement official said that the incident was likely not related to terrorism, but to local crime. Cocaine and a weapon were found in the car after the firefight.

"We are investigating with NSA Police and other law enforcement agencies. Our Evidence Response Team is processing the crime scene, and FBI Agents are doing joint interviews with witnesses. We are working with the US Attorney's Office in Maryland to determine if federal charges are warranted," said FBI officials in a written statement.

Fort Meade is roughly 25 miles northeast of Washington D.C., and acts as the headquarters for the NSA and several other intelligence, information and cyber-security agencies under the Department of Defense, according to USA Today.

Roughly 11,000 military personnel and 29,000 civilian employees work on-site.
