Forbes named Jennifer Lawrence and Dwayne Johnson the highest paid actress and actor for 2016.

Lawrence, 26, was named the world's highest-paid actress for the second consecutive year, having collected $46 million over the past 12 months. The haul was particularly helped by the final installment of "Hunger Games" franchise, noted Forbes.

"Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2" was released last November and has made $653 million worldwide at the theaters, according to BoxOfficeMojo.com.

The Academy Award-winning actress also scored a hefty upfront fee for the upcoming movie "Passengers," noted Forbes, and also starred in May's super hero flick "X-Men Apocalypse."

Lawrence's haul topped No. 2 actress Melissa McCarthy, 45, who earned $33 million over the past 12 reporting months, noted Forbes.

"Ghostbusters" has made $208.2 million worldwide since debuting July 15, noted BoxOfficeMojo.com.

Scarlett Johansson, 31, who reprised her role as Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow for Marvel's "Captain America: Civil War," ranked third, having made $25 million. "Civil War" has made $1.15 billion at the box office since its release on May 6, noted Box Office Mojo.

CNN reported that even though female actresses have showed great success at the box office, they continue to suffer from a gender pay gap, similar to other women in the work force.

Johnson, 44, made $64.5 million over the past 12 months, according to Forbes' annual survey, becoming that the magazine calls "Hollywood's go-to action hero." Johnson's rise knocked Robert Downey Jr. out of the No. 1 spot for the first time in three years.

"A bulk of Johnson’s earnings come from his roles in the 'Fast & Furious' franchise, the disaster movie 'San Andreas,' and the HBO series 'Ballers,' as well as upfront fees for 'Fast 8' and the 'Baywatch' movie," wrote Variety. Johnson's rank jumped up from No. 11 ($31 million) in 2015.

The actors' top five earners in 2016 include Jackie Chan at $61 million, Matt Damon with $55 million, Tom Cruise at $53 million, and Johnny Depp at $48 million.
