NFL Murder-Suicide: Details of Javon Belcher's Final Hours Emerge

More details are surfacing about the final hours of Kansas City Chief’s linebacker Javon Belcher, including a night of drinking, and his behavior in the months preceding Saturday’s murder-suicide.

A friend of Belcher’s told Deadspin.com that the NFL player had suffered a series of football-related head traumas leading to a battle with substance abuse in which Belcher often combined alcohol with prescription pain-relievers between games.

Belcher “drank a lot,” according to Deadspin’s unnamed source, “on a nightly basis" and regularly relied on heavy doses of medication to combat physical pain he experienced after games. The source added that both Belcher, 25, and girlfriend Kasandra Perkins, 22, the mother of his 3-month-old child, were “very young and immature (which) combined with other factors led to this tragedy.”

The New York Post reported it learned late Monday that hours before fatally shooting Perkins, the football player had gotten drunk and spent the night with another women.

That woman, Brittni Glass, took Belcher back to her apartment, according to neighbors, and Belcher slept for several hours outside the apartment inside his Bentley until police woke him at about 2:30 a.m. Belcher then entered Glass’s apartment and re-emerged four hours later.

“I was with him that night, that’s it,” Glass reluctantly told the Post.

At about 6:45 a.m., Belcher left Glass and traveled to his home where Perkins and his mother were staying.

In a Kansas City Star exclusive, Belcher’s mother recalled watching her son kneel down over the body of his long-time girlfriend following the shooting in the master bathroom, apologizing to her as he kissed her forehead.

According to Belcher’s mother, who moved from New York to stay with her son, Belcher also apologized to her and kissed his daughter good-bye before fleeing to Kansas City’s Arrowhead Stadium where he committed suicide in front of his coach and general manager.
