Fallen Marine's Medals Stolen From Widow's North Carolina House

Medals awarded to fallen Marine Christopher Bordoni were stolen from his widow’s North Carolina home a week before Christmas.

Bordoni of Ithaca, New York, died April 3, 2012, from injuries sustained in combat in Afghanistan.

According to the Ithaca Journal, Jessica Bordoni’s home was broken into Wednesday and the thieves stole Christmas presents, jewelry, clothes, and Cpl. Bordoni’s Purple Heart and Achievement Medal with Valor and his memorial rifle.

“You don’t know what sentimental value there is to jewelry, but when you see medals — you know, medals came with a price,” Christopher Bordoni’s father, Tim Bordoni, told the Ithaca Journal. “It’s just unconscionable for someone to do that.”

Christopher Bordoni received the Purple Heart just minutes before he died, his mother, Carol Bordoni Sprague, said.

“We just hope that whoever did this finds it in their heart to somehow get them back to the family,” Bordoni Sprague told the newspaper.

Jessica Bordoni said furniture was torn apart in both bedrooms and broken glass was everywhere, WECT-TV reported.

"Those medals are symbolic of everything he sacrificed and for those to be gone, especially around the holidays, it's just horrible. If anything I just wish I could have those back, somehow," Bordoni said, according to the station.

Christopher Bordoni was 21 when he died.

Twitter users helped urge the thief to return the medals.
