Emma Watson, supporting star of the "Harry Potter" movies, has come under investigation for allegedly employing an American maid in her U.K. home in violation of immigration laws.

According to E! Online, the maid in question is said to have worked at Watson's New York apartment in early 2013, and may have later worked from September 2013 to February 2014 in Watson's $3.5 million home in London. If the maid was taken to London on a tourist visa, she wouldn't be legally allowed to work in the country – only visit.

The housekeeper was reported to have been stopped recently trying to re-enter the U.K. by immigration officials. She was questioned about how she planned to fund her stay in the country. Soon after, border agents received a complaint that accused Watson of employing the woman in question for a three-month period, and launched an investigation.

The New York Daily News reported that Watson could face fines of up to $17,000 if she is eventually found guilty of employing an immigrant illegally.

Several publications have reached out to Watson for comment on the allegations, but she and her representatives have yet to respond.

Watson, 24, recently graduated from Brown University, and continues with her acting work as well. She's appeared in "The Perks of Being a Wallflower," "The Bling Ring," and "Noah," as of late.
