Elizabeth Warren Treated Differently as Woman in Senate, She Says

By    |   Wednesday, 22 Oct 2014 08:17 PM

Sen. Elizabeth Warren says she has been treated differently as a woman in the Senate, and while she declined to elaborate, Warren did say she wasn't surprised by the treatment.

"But it's hard to change these big, male-dominated institutions,” Warren told CNN. “What I am very happy about is that there are now enough women in the United States Senate to bring change to that place and I think that's just powerfully important."

She cut that part of the conversation short after saying, “You know, others have said it before me. If you don't have a seat at the table, you're probably on the menu."

Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand details sexism in the Senate as part of her memoir “Off the Sidelines,” including an encounter with an older member of the Senate who reportedly said, “Don’t lose too much weight now. I like my girls chubby!”

Twitter users posted mixed reactions to Warren’s comments.
