Elizabeth Norment Dies: 'House of Cards' Actress Mourned by Colleagues

Elizabeth Norment, the veteran actress best known for playing the secretary to Kevin Spacey's character on the Netflix hit "House of Cards," died Oct. 13 at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York. She was 61.

Norment's sister, Kate, confirmed the actress' death to The Hollywood Reporter. No other details were released.

Norment starred as Nancy Kaufberger, the loyal executive secretary opposite Spacey's calculating politician Frank Underwood. The actor posted his condolences on Twitter.



"Everyone at 'House of Cards' is deeply saddened by Elizabeth's passing," series creator Beau Willimon said in a statement. "She was a talented actress, a warm soul, and a good friend to us all."

The studio that produces "House of Cards," MRC, also released a statement, according to NBC News.

"Elizabeth Norment was a talented actress with a beautiful spirit who touched the entire 'House of Cards' family," the MRC statement said. "Our thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends."

Norment also appeared on such shows as "Law & Order," "St. Elsewhere," "Party of Five," "ER," "Mad About You," and Blue Bloods." She was a native of Washington, D.C., where her father was an administrator for the CIA, noted THR.

She earned a master's degree from the Yale School of Drama in 1979 and was a founding member of Robert Brustein's American Repertory Theatre.

Fans said goodbye to Norment on social media.
