Eleanor Holmes Norton's Parking Job Wins 'Worst Ever in Capitol History'

By    |   Friday, 27 Mar 2015 11:43 AM

Eleanor Holmes Norton won the worst parking job award this week when the 77-year-old congresswoman awkwardly squeezed her car in at the wrong angle on a Washington, D.C., street, hitting at least one other vehicle in the process.

The lousy park job, which was caught on camera, really struck a nerve with viewers as they watched Norton lodge her vehicle between two diagonally parked cars, then proceed to squeeze out her door and walk away.

"If she parks like that she should not be a member of Congress anymore," someone can be heard saying on the video. "Is she going to park like that? . . . Unbelievable. No note or anything. If she leaves it like that it's the worst parking job I've ever witnessed."

At one point while walking away, Norton seems to double back, giving viewers hope that perhaps the D.C. delegate would leave a note on the vehicle she hit or move altogether. Instead, she grabs something she forgot and then walks off with an aide, presumably to attend Afghan President Ashraf Ghani's joint address.

A Norton spokesman later issued a statement on the park job to The Washington Post.

"Fortunately, the congresswoman did not have a parking mishap," Benjamin Fritsch, Norton's communications director, said, adding that Norton assessed the vehicles on both sides of her. "We did not see any damages but left a business card and a note so the congresswoman could be reached."

Twitter users weren’t having it though, with many bashing the septuagenarian for her parking malfeasance.
