Actor Edward Herrmann, known for roles in “The Practice” and “Gilmore Girls,” died Wednesday. He was 71.

"Edward Herrmann, besides being an accomplished actor, he was also a true gentleman and a scholar, as well as being an incredibly kind and decent man. He will be sorely missed," Herrmann's manager Robbie Kass told HuffPost Entertainment.

Herrmann had been battling brain cancer and was hospitalized during recent weeks, TMZ reported. His family decided to take him off the respirator when his condition didn’t improve.

Herrmann also is known for roles in films including “The Paper Chase,” “The Lost Boys,” “Richie Rich” and “Overboard.”

He won an Emmy for his guest appearances as a law professor on "The Practice" and was nominated for five Emmys throughout his career.

The actor also performed voice-over work and was a narrator of documentaries and specials for A&E, History Channel, and PBS.

Twitter users remembered Herrmann.
