A special seasonal line of Dove chocolates has been recalled after manufacturers learned there may be pieces of Snickers, Twix, and Milky Way candies inside the bag containing peanuts, wheat, and eggs.

Parent company Mars Chocolate North America said that peanuts, wheat, and eggs are not listed as ingredients on the 24-ounce bags of Dove Chocolate Assortment Snowflakes and could threaten those who have allergies, according to a statement posted on the U.S. Food and Drug Administration site.

"People who have allergies to peanuts, wheat, and/or eggs have the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products," the FDA statement read. "No adverse reactions have been reported to date."

The Dove chocolates in questions were reportedly only distributed to one major retailer and sold at retail food stores from Sept. 19 to Dec. 1 in Arizona, Georgia, Massachusetts, Mississippi, Ohio, Virginia, California, Iowa, Maryland, New Hampshire, Oklahoma, Vermont, Colorado, Maine, New Jersey, Oregon, Washington, Connecticut, Indiana, Michigan, New Mexico, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Delaware, Kansas, Minnesota, Nevada, Rhode Island, Wyoming, Florida, Kentucky, Missouri, New York, and Texas.

"If you have one and someone in your household is allergic to peanuts, wheat, or eggs, return it to the store where you purchased it," Consumerist's Laura Northrup advised. "If no one would be harmed, it's okay to keep the bag, and you can just think of the possibility of receiving a piece of Snickers, as one consumer reported, as an exciting possible bonus."

According to CNN Money, there were 43 recalls for undeclared allergens in 2014. The current recall includes about 6,700 bags of the Dove Chocolate Assortment Snowflakes.

The FDA statement said the issue with the Dove Chocolate Assortment Snowflakes was brought up to the company by a consumer who found the Snickers pieces in one of its bags.

"Mars Chocolate is working with the impacted retailer to ensure that the recalled product is removed from sale," the statement said.

Social media helped with the recall with some tongue-in-cheek messages.
