David Letterman walked off his "Late Show" interview with Joan Rivers Tuesday night as part of a comedic stunt to parody Rivers' recent walk-off from a CNN interview.

Letterman began the interview asking the veteran comic, 81, about her new book, "Diary of a Mad Diva," which Rivers has been promoting on the media circuit. The book has ruffled a lot of feathers, including those of "Twilight" actress Kristen Stewart and PETA.

Then he brought up the CNN interview that aired Saturday in which Rivers became impatient with what she called a "negative" line of questioning, and walked off.

"I was watching the CNN thing, and the woman who was interviewing you ... you felt that she was being —"

"Very judgmental, very nasty, very opinionated — it was like my wedding night!" Rivers shouted, prompting a laugh from the audience.

Letterman then asked Rivers if the walk-off was a stunt, and she vehemently denied it.

"You know me, I'm easy to work with. I'm up for an Activia commercial."

She then joked that she "lost out on the Depends" spokesmanship, and made a quip about late actress June Allyson, who was involved with the adult-diaper company in the 1980s.

Then, completely unprompted, Letterman pretended to get upset with Rivers, took off his jacket, slammed it to the floor and walked off stage.

Being the old pro that she is, Rivers didn't miss a beat, however. She happily begins turning back and forth in her seat, interviewing herself for a few minutes before turning to the camera and queuing for commercial.
