Danny Murphy, a quadriplegic actor who starred in “There’s Something About Mary” and other Farrelly Brothers films, has died at age 59 of cancer, TMZ reported.

Murphy was injured in a diving accident when he was 19 and only got into the movies when an old friend, Peter Farrelly of Farrelly Brothers films, cast him in “Kingpin” in 1996 at age 40.

The Daily Mail reported that Farrelly was with Murphy when the diving accident occurred at Martha’s Vineyard on Cape Cod.

After that, Murphy played roles in “Me, Myself & Irene,” “Stuck on You,” “Shallow Hal” and “Hall Pass.”

After entering showbusiness, he launched Blue Zone Productions that specialized in helping individuals with disabilities get acting roles.

Murphy was a strong advocate for people with disabilities who, as he said on his website, “just want equal opportunities.” Before becoming an actor and choosing to be active in the film industry, Murphygraduated with a criminal justice degree in 1979 and worked at companies honing his sales and management skills.

Murphy, who had been a passionate golf player before he was injured, lived in Fort Lauderdale where he loved to sail. Although he moved to California after the acting bug bit, he had returned to Florida in 2011 to “be closer to family and friends,” his website said.

Even after his move east, Murphy stayed active in the film industry. His last blog in November 2013 talked about his upcoming trip to Atlanta to film “Dumb & Dumber To,” which he said “Should be a ball.” He also talked about his new standup wheelchair that he would be using on the set.

Farrelly, at the end of July, tweeted in response to someone about the guy in the chair in one of his movies:
