'Dancing With the Stars': Alfonso Ribeiro Shines, Betsey Johnson Booted

"Dancing With the Stars" paid tribute to the contestants' most memorable years Monday night, with Alfonso Ribeiro earning a perfect score for his "Carlton" dance and fashion designer Betsey Johnson making her exit after failing to earn enough fan votes.

Johnson, 72, was in jeopardy of being eliminated even before she and pro partner Tony Dovolani took to the floor to perform a jive, dedicated to her daughter Lulu, according to People magazine.

The first half of Johnson's performance was spot on but it seemed to come apart towards the end, The Wall Street Journal's Lisa Reynolds wrote in a recap.

"This dance is her thank you to Lulu, who makes a cameo on the runway at the start of the dance," she wrote. "Betsey and Tony look as if they're at a sock hop. Their flicks are in sync, and her knees are so high! Again, they incorporate the cartwheel/split, and it doesn’t feel out of place. The second half isn’t as strong, though: There seem to be more teeny hesitations, as if she forgot the routine."

Ultimately, their 29 points out of a possible 40 were not enough to keep the duo in the competition.

"Thank you, thank you, mostly to Tony, to my fans, this has been the best wonderful thing," Johnson said after she was eliminated. "It's just been a trip, a big trip."

The highlight of Monday's episode, though, was Ribeiro's jazz routine, which featured his signature "Carlton" move from his "Fresh Prince of Bel-Air" days. The performance earned him and pro partner Witney Carson a perfect 40 out of 40.

"I love the Carlton dance. I love how it makes people feel," he said on the show. "I certainly don't do it a lot. But I love the fact that people have this nostalgic look at that dance . . . This was all for the fans."

"Dancing With the Stars" airs Mondays at 8 p.m. EST on ABC.
