'Dancing Man' Party Is Payback for Brit Who Was Body-Shamed Online

The “Dancing Man,” who became an Internet celebrity after a group of online trolls mocked his appearance, rubbed elbows with the stars over the weekend at a Hollywood party thrown in his honor.

British businessman Sean O’Brien, 47, was dubbed the "Dancing Man" after people body-shamed him on the online message board 4Chan back in February, according to the New York Daily News.

“Spotted this specimen trying to dance the other week,” the poster wrote alongside pictures of O'Brien grooving and then hanging his head. “He stopped when he saw us laughing.”

Cassandra Fairbanks, a writer with the Free Thought Project, then started a #FindDancingMan campaign to identify the mystery man. Now, the body-shaming incident has turned into a positive for O'Brien, who was flown to Los Angeles over the weekend for a giant dance party.

Hundreds of supporters turned out to party with attendees including “Party Hard” rocker Andrew W.K. and Monica Lewinsky. Moby DJ'd the event while Pharrell Williams performed via video.

“This is a once in a lifetime opportunity that I'm going to grasp it with both hands,” O'Brien told KABC-TV in Los Angeles.

The L.A. dance party, organized by Fairbanks and Hope Leigh, raised more than $70,000 for The Cybersmiles Foundation, an organization aimed at fighting cyberbullying, Today.com reported.

“This is amazing,” dance organizer Cassandra Fairbanks told KABC. “It really shows power of people. If everybody comes together to do something nice look what you can accomplish.”

O’Brien also appeared on the “Today" show Friday for a surprise dance party with singer Meghan Trainor.

“It's completely surreal,” O'Brien said on “Today." “It's something I never thought would happen to me. It's completely amazing. There's (sic) so many good people out there in the world, and what did happen to me, it touched a lot of nerves. The more we can do and the better we can do [against] cyber-bullying is fantastic.”
