NFL Hall of Famer and Seattle Seahawks great Cortez Kennedy died Tuesday in Orlando at the age of 48.

Kennedy died alone of unknown causes; his death is being investigated by Orlando police, who said they have found nothing suspicious so far in the investigation, ESPN reported.

An eight-time Pro Bowler, Kennedy was awarded 1992 Defensive Player of the Year and spent his entire career — 11 seasons — with the Seahawks, according to ESPN. He had 58 sacks as a tackle, an unusually high number. He had 448 tackles and three interceptions during his career and was named to The Associated Press 1990s All-Decade team.

“The entire Hall of Fame family is stunned and deeply saddened to learn the news of Cortez Kennedy’s passing,” said Pro Football Hall of Fame president and CEO David Baker, USA Today reported. “On behalf of the Hall of Fame Board of Trustees, Cortez’s fellow Hall of Famers, and our staff, we extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends and fans.”

“Cortez will be remembered not only for all his great achievements on the football field but how he handled himself off the field. He epitomized the many great values this game teaches which serves as an inspiration to millions of fans,” Baker’s statement continued, USA Today reported.

Kennedy’s friends, colleagues and fans took to Twitter to remember him and grieve his passing.
