Coma Request: 'Bob Seger' Were First Words Uttered by Woman After 5 Years

Evie Branan's dedication to rocker Bob Seger was apparent the moment she awoke from a semi-coma after five years. Her first words were, "I want to go to a Bob Seger concert."

That was in May 2011. Two years later, on Thursday, the 79-year-old Branan got her wish by attending a Seger concert in Auburn Hills, Mich., followed by a private party attended by the band, reported Michigan Live.

Branan's coma resulted from a debilitating stroke that caused her to fall and hit her head. Since then she has been recovering at Willowbrook Manor in Flint Township.

Due to the stroke, Branan's memory and her ability to speak and walk have been severely impaired. Despite her age and condition, the wheelchair-bound Branan is clearly young at heart, said Willowbrook staffers.

Branan's youth was illustrated during her interview with Michigan Live, where she wore green eye shadow, sported short, spiked white hair and had her wrists covered in bracelets, topped off by a vintage Bob Seger T-shirt.

When asked about her first words, Branan laughingly said, "Why would I say that? Maybe my last thoughts were Bob Seger before I had my stroke."

According to aides at the assisted living facility, Branan had been waiting eagerly to see Seger perform in concert.

"When you meet (Branan), you'll never forget her," said Michelle Cross, administrator at Willowbrook Manor. "I tell her, 'You are a miracle. Things like this just don't happen.'"

"Every time I talk about her I light up," added Cross. "I want to get out to people that there is hope (for stroke patients). This story is truly amazing."

Immediately after learning that Seger would be having a nearby concert, Cross purchased three tickets to the concert, for herself, Branan and her aide.

"(Her story) was definitely nothing I had heard before," said Anne Tenbusch, executive assistant for Punch Enterprises that manages Bob Seger. "I always want to try to help out with stories like that because Bob loves his fans. It’s such a cool story I just wanted to help out in any way I could."

Tenbusch arranged for Branan and her companions to attend the concert's private after-party.

"I'm so excited I can hardly breathe," Branan told Michigan Live several days before the concert. "What am I looking forward to the most? Hugging Bob Seger and giving him a big smooch."
