Film director Spike Lee promoted an Aug. 23 rally for Colin Kaepernick outside NFL headquarters in New York on his Twitter page Tuesday due to the quarterback’s inability to find a spot on a team roster since being released by the 49ers in the offseason.

Lee posted a graphic for “United We Stand Rally” for Kaepernick, although he appeared to spell the QB’s name wrong in the graphic, For the Win pointed out.

In a later tweet, Lee said he didn’t organize the protest but supports Kaepernick and his “stance on the injustices in the USA.”

Several NFL teams in need of a quarterback have passed on Kaepernick in recent weeks and months, including the Miami Dolphins and Baltimore Ravens.

While some point to the controversy Kaepernick caused when he refused to stand for the national anthem at his games last season as the reason he doesn’t have a job, others like Joe Montana have said Kaepernick's (lack of) playing ability is more likely to blame.

Commenters on Lee’s thread debated Kaepernick’s perceived ability and why no one can spell Kaepernick’s name right.
