"Cocaine Cowboy" Gustavo Falcon, a drug kingpin who has been on the run for 26 years, was stopped in his tracks on Wednesday when he was arrested in central Florida.

Falcon, one of the original cocaine cowboys, was charged with drug trafficking in the 1980s, as he and his brother Augusto "Willie" Falcon were found to be smuggling large amounts of cocaine into the U.S., according to WESH Orlando.

Falcon, Willie and Willie’s partner Salvador Magluta were indicted in 1991 for smuggling about 75 tons of cocaine – something they had been doing since 1978, CNN noted.

At the time, drug use was a major problem in Miami, and it sparked street wars among cartels, gangs and police.

While Magluta was sentenced to 205 years in prison and Willie received 20 years following a plea deal, Falcon reportedly managed to escape to either South America or Cuba.

Prior to his arrest on Wednesday, authorities said Falcon had left a rental property in Kissimmee and was about to go on a bike ride with his wife, WESH noted.

When police stopped him, he had a fake driver’s license from 1997. Falcon’s wife and children also had fake licenses.

The 55-year-old initially insisted that he was the man identified on the phony license, but then he eventually confessed.

U.S. marshals said Falcon was back on their radar after he was involved in a recent car accident near Orlando, where his fake license was put to use, the Miami Herald reported.

"We figured this all out a month ago," U.S. Marshals Service spokesman Barry Golden said, according to the newspaper. "We pulled his driver’s license and saw it was the same Gustavo Falcon. He was the last of the cocaine cowboys."

Falcon appeared in court on Thursday.
