Christine O'Donnell: Piers Morgan a 'Cheeky Bugger'

Thursday, 18 Aug 2011 12:41 PM

Former Senate candidate Christine O’Donnell’s book tour got a bit dodgy Wednesday when the tea party favorite objected to a line of inquiry on CNN’s “Piers Morgan Tonight” show.

O’Donnell was on the show to promote “Troublemaker: Let's Do What it Takes to Make America Great Again” but took a hike when things turned to gay marriage.

Morgan had played clips of O'Donnell, who ran for the Senate from Delaware, where she discussed dabbling in witchcraft and was then questioned about such topics as gay marriage.

“'I'm promoting the policies that I laid out in the book that are mostly fiscal, that are mostly constitutional," she said. “That's why I agreed to come on your show. That’s what I want to talk about — I’m not being weird — You’re being a little rude.”

Morgan expressed surprise and said he was “baffled” by her objections.

Nonetheless, she walked off the set. However, the war of words didn’t end there and both turned to Twitter.

“Piers, thanks for the invite. Schedule is already packed, maybe another night. No hard feelings, you cheeky bugger,” O’Donnell posted according to The Hollywood Reporter.

She also took a dig at Morgan for his alleged role in the British phone-hacking scandal, writing, “I only agreed to go on the Piers Morgan Show because he promised not to hack my cell phone.” Morgan has denied knowledge of any phone hacking when he was a British tabloid editor.
Morgan tweeted, “Christine O'Donnell is the first author in the history of publishing to walk out of a TV interview because the host apparently read her book,” according to the Reporter.

“No hard feelings you cheeky bugger,” O'Donnell says in another tweet, according to USA Today.

Morgan also took the battle to CNN’s  “Anderson Cooper 360,” where he defended himself as “cheeky, maybe, but not rude.”
