Chris Christie approached a heckling Chicago Cubs fan at a Brewers-Cubs game Sunday, in an encounter that has drawn widespread attention and an explanation and apology from the fan.

The New Jersey governor was headed back to his seat with a bowl of nachos when the fan, Brad Joseph, told Christie that he sucked, according to WISN reporter Ben Hutchinson, Joseph's cousin.

Hutchinson caught the tail end of the encounter between Christie and Joseph on video, which he later posted on Twitter.

"You're a big shot," Christie's heard telling the fan at the end of the video, The Washington Post noted.

"I appreciate that," Joseph is heard saying in response.

"When he initially was going up the stairs I yelled his name. He was already quite a bit past me, and 30 feet away I yelled his name and told him that he sucked," Joseph told Hutchinson. "I called him a hypocrite because I thought it needed to be said. He then turned around and walked all the way back toward me and got up in my face for what seemed like a long time, but was probably only about 30 seconds or a minute."

"[He] was yelling at me. First he told me, 'Why don't you have another beer?' which I thought was a decent comeback, and I thought that was kind of funny," Joseph added. "Then he started calling me a tough guy."

Joseph even claims that Christie's knee, at one point, made contact with him. The fan also said Christie went as far as to ask him if he wanted to "start something."

Joseph later took to Facebook to apologize for some of the language he used toward Christie, but he also gave a full recollection of what happened and explained why he feels the way he does about the governor.

"I'm not proud of my behavior today and I regret shouting 'you suck!' at Christie," Joseph wrote on Facebook. "So Chris, if you're reading this, I'm sorry. I didn't have much time to think of anything to say, and I wanted to express my displeasure with you. I could have done better than 'you suck.'"

This incident comes just weeks after Christie was booed by fans at a game between the St. Louis Cardinals and New York Mets after he caught a foul ball, WISN noted.

Joseph's heckling encounter with Christie may not have gone well, but his team still came out on top Sunday afternoon, as the Cubs beat the Milwaukee Brewers 4-2.
