Scores of celebrities, including Eva Longoria, Alec Baldwin, Kim Kardashian, and Chris Rock, are advocating gun control as the way to put a stop to mass shootings such as the one Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn., which took the lives of 20 children and six school personnel.

Here are the reactions of some of the stars after Friday's shooting:

"How can a 20yr old with a history of mental problems have access to guns! #GunControl" – Eva Longoria

"A ban on semi-automatic assault weapons is a necessary first step toward resuscitating the soul of this country..." – Alec Baldwin

"Just how is it that a mentally troubled teen can have access to a gun! #GunControl!!" – Kim Kardashian

"There's no such thing as assault weapons .punching somebody in the face that's an assault. If this guy had assault weapons those kids would still be alive . Lets start calling these weapons what they really are 'PEOPLE KILLERS'" – Chris Rock

"Sorry but prayers and giving your kids hugs fix nothing; only having the balls to stand up to our insane selfish gun culture will." – Bill Maher

"How much more suffering & loss will it take before we better regulate the sale of arms in our country? Let @nra know how you feel." – Susan Sarandon

"Thank you to our President for speaking out about our antiquated gun laws. And for giving us some hope that we will adjust to common sense." – Martha Stewart

"The long term solution to reducing gun deaths is to change our society from one of perpetual war and fear to one of peace and tolerance. … The short term solution? A law immediately banning semi-automatic weapons & mega-clips. Must have license to own gun. Must pass mental exam." – Michael Moore

"A country that does nothing about gun control while witnessing the mass killings of innocent precious life, MUST wake up! Shattered." – Goldie Hawn

"Gun lovers are the first to remind you this should be a 'day of mourning.' How about we mourn & make it harder to get guns on the same day?" – Rashida Jones

"i have looked at the zillion tweets i got from people all who think we should own guns. none of them add up. ban all guns … melt them all down and turn them into sculptures. Hopefully one day in the future." – Flea

"No one is saying you can't have your gun, crazy angry gun guy. But most of the country is tired of how easy it is to get a gun." – Zach Braff
