Singer Carnie Wilson publicly revealed on Twitter last week that she's suffering from Bell's palsy, a neurological disorder.

The 44-year member of pop music group Wilson Phillips said she has been getting acupuncture to help with the Bell's palsy, a form of facial paralysis, usually temporary, that stems from damage to a facial nerve and results in weakness or drooping of the facial muscles on one side.

Bell's palsy can happen at any age and is usually temporary for most, according to the Mayo Clinic. Within a few weeks, symptoms begin to improve and after six months, most have completely recovered. The exact cause for Bell's palsy is unclear, although it has been linked to exposure to a viral infection.

Actors George Clooney and Pierce Brosnan both had the disorder as children and made full recoveries, according to the BBC.

Wilson, who appeared as a contestant on the most recent season of the Food Network's "Rachael vs. Guy: Celebrity Cook-Off" reality show, previously tweeted about going through a tough time.

Wilson has never been shy about publicizing her health. She opened up to People magazine earlier this month about her weight struggles after undergoing gastric bypass surgery in 1999, and lap-band surgery in 2012.

"I tell my daughters, 'You have to love yourself,'" she told People. "If I ever hear them put themselves down I tell them, 'Don’t say that. You have to say positive things about yourself because you are what you think you are.' For me, I know I don't weigh 120 pounds, but I'm also not 500 pounds. I am who I am and I celebrate where I am when I'm there."
