“Broadway has been a dream of mine since I was a little girl, and I look forward to working with this incredibly talented cast to tell this classic tale,” said Jepsen, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

She replaces Laura Osnes who played the part for a year and got a Tony nomination. Jepsen will be on stage beginning Feb. 4 for 12 weeks.

Jepsen joins fellow big name Fran Drescher, another newbie to the Broadway show. The actress best-known for her role on “The Nanny” is also making her debut on the big stage as the mean stepmother; she has been in Off Broadway shows.

Jepsen emailed The New York Times about her new role as Cinderella. In addition to high school musicals, the Canadian singer also attended the Canadian College of Performing Arts.

“It was essentially musical theater training with studies in singing, dancing, and acting,” she told the Times, adding that she loves the Cinderella story. “It’s so hopeful and inspiring. I’ve always been one to believe in the impossible, so I relate to her character completely.”

Jepsen tweeted her excitement about the role:

Jepsen is working on a new album that’s expected out sometime in 2014, the Times said. Her first album “Call Me Maybe” sold more than 10 million copies.
