Edward Gamson of North Bethesda, Maryland, is suing British Airways after he thought he booked a flight to Granada, Spain, but instead wound up 4,000 miles away on the Caribbean island of Grenada.

Gamson and his partner endured a three-day ordeal and never made it to Spain, The Independent reported.

“I have a lifelong interest in Islamic art. I’m also of Spanish Jewish heritage so it was something I had always wanted to do to visit Granada and the Alhambra,” Gamson told The Independent. “I made it absolutely clear to the booking agent I wanted to go to Granada in Spain. Why on earth would I want to go to Grenada in the Caribbean if I was flying back to America from Lisbon?”

Gamson, a dentist, was traveling in Europe for a conference when he hoped to make the stop in Spain. He told NBC News that the flight crew was helpful and told him the same thing happened a week earlier.

Booking agents in Florida are accused of making the error.

The airline offered Gamson and his partner $376 each and 50,000 miles, but Gamson is suing the airline for $34,000, accounting for hotels, trains, and tours planned for the missed Granada vacation, NBC News reported.

U.S. District Judge James Boasberg denied British Airways’ request to have the case moved to federal court in a ruling that quoted Mark Twain: "The difference between the right word and the almost right word is the difference between lightning and a lightning bug."

A 62-year-old woman found herself in a similar situation last year when she booked a “bucket list” trip after being diagnosed with breast cancer and a brain tumor, The Daily Mail reported.

Twitter users weren't sure how such a thing could happen.
