Packers president and CEO Mark Murphy wants to bring Brett Favre back and bury the hatchet between the players and the team's former golden boy.

“We want to have [Favre] back in the family,” Murphy told FOXSportsWisconsin this week.

Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers and Favre presented the Comeback Player of the Year Award at the NFL Honors show in February, which Murphy called “a great first step." The pair aren't known to be close, according to ESPN, and Rodgers was caught in the middle when Favre and the Packers severed ties prior to the 2008 season.

“We’re hopeful to have [Favre] back in the fold and get him back involved in the organization soon," Murphy said.

Rodgers said Favre's jersey would be retired soon.

"Brett is two years removed from the game. He's going to obviously be in the Packers Hall of Fame," Rodgers told ESPN Radio three days after "NFL Honors." "He'll get his number retired, and he'll be in the Pro Football Hall of Fame in the next few years.

Favre started every Packers game from September 20, 1992 to January 20, 2008, according to Fox, and holds many NFL records. He left the team to play for the New York Jets, at the tail-end of his career. Many diehard Packers fans were upset with Favre's decision to leave the team that he helped the team set many records.

Still, Rodgers and Murphy say they don't want there to be any bad blood.

"It's important, I think, to make sure that he's recognized for all the accomplishments that he's achieved in our organization especially. He's still very dear to many of our fans for the things that he's done for the Packers on the field. You can never take that away," Rodgers said.
