Black Hat Bandits Hit 7 DC-Area Banks, Get Increasingly Brazen

The Black Hat Bandits, a pair of D.C.-area bank robbers, are in the crosshairs of law enforcement, and the FBI is offering a $30,000 reward for information leading to their arrest.

According to CBS affiliate WUSA, the stick-up boys have stormed seven banks in Virginia and Maryland since Jan. 2.

Police say their behavior during the robberies has gotten increasingly brazen. In recent robberies they've pointed handguns at customers' heads, and jumped to counter to go straight for the bank vaults.

Their dress is always similar, with the pair donning brimmed hats, ski masks, dark sunglasses, and black coats. Occasionally they also go for a fake beard.

On Feb. 18, the pair pulled off two robberies in one day.

"I saw a little boy yelling, 'The bank was robbed! The bank was robbed!" Dietra McKenzie, who had just pulled up to one of the banks, told My Fox DC.

"I saw the cops. They surrounded the bank and I was thinking, 'Oh my God, what's going on?'"
