Black Hat Bandits Hit 8th Bank, This Time Leave Clues Behind

By    |   Wednesday, 04 Mar 2015 07:12 AM

The bank robbers dubbed the Black Hat Bandits have made their eighth known heist and this time the trio left clues behind: footprints in the snow as they ran to a getaway car.

Arlington County, Virginia police and FBI agents made casts of the footprints and searched  for other clues the robbers may have left behind on Monday at the Wells Fargo Bank in Falls Church, Virginia, reported the Washington Post.

"We're trying to collect anything and everything we can," said FBI spokesman Lindsay Ram. "They are experienced, calm, calculated bank robbers. They have a command presence of the banks. They're taking over the entire bank. They order everybody to the ground. They know what they're doing. There's a certain brazenness to their robbery style."

While no one has been injured in the eight bank robberies authorities believe the gang has pulled since Jan. 2 – two in Maryland and six in Northern Virginia – FBI agents told the Post that the robbers are becoming more aggressive and they fear it could just be a matter of time before someone gets hurt.

In some of their latest heists, the robbers held a gun to the head of a bank customer while another jumped the counters to gain access to money or vaults, the FBI said in a  statement.

"During each robbery, the Black Hat Bandits have been described as carrying handguns and wearing winter coats, sunglasses, black hats (either a winter knit cap or wide-brimmed hat) and facial disguises such as ski masks or a fake beard," said the FBI.

The FBI announced that it is offering up to $30,000 for information leading to the identification, arrest and conviction of those responsible for the bank robberies.

The FBI suggested that bystanders who notice someone running across a parking lot or see an idling car to get a license plate number or take a picture and call authorities, reported the Post.

"Don't confront them," Ram said. "Don't follow them. If you feel safe and can collect evidence for us that would be helpful."
