Microsoft founder Bill Gates went high-tech for the ALS Ice Bucket challenge he was given by Mark Zuckerberg, designing an elaborate system to douse himself in icy water.

“I’m glad to give to ALS; it’s a great cause,” Gates said in a video posted to social media Friday afternoon. “But I want to accept this challenge, I want to do it better than it’s been done.”

The video showed Gates sketching out his design, then apparently making the structure that held the water bucket above his head.

Before pulling the cord, Gates passed the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge on to three more people: Tesla’s Elon Musk, entertainer Ryan Seacrest, and Chris Anderson of TED. “Consider yourself challenged,” he said on the video. “You have 24 hours. Good luck.”

The popularity of the Ice Bucket Challenge has garnered a lot of dollars for ALS research (more than $5.5 million since July 29, compared to $32,000 in the same time period last year), and Time magazine reported Friday that more than 1.2 million videos of people taking the challenge have been posted to Facebook.

Anderson and Musk replied within hours of the challenge, tweeting:

The social media audience was impressed with Gates’ creativity.
