'Bill Cosby Raped Me,' Accuser Reveals in WaPo Op-Ed

A woman who claims Bill Cosby raped her multiple times when she was a teenager is speaking out decades later in the wake of other accusations.

In a Washington Post editorial, Barbara Bowman, now in her 40s, talked about what allegedly happened between Cosby and herself, including numerous incidents of sexual assault. As a 17-year-old, she says she didn’t have the wherewithal to file charges or demand to be heard.

She planned to tell her story in court in 2004, when Andrea Constand filed suit against the comedian. But Bowman never got the chance to testify because Cosby settled the suit out of court.

"Only after a man, Hannibal Buress, called Bill Cosby a rapist in a comedy act last month did the public outcry begin in earnest," Bowman wrote in The Post, referring to the comedian’s standup routine where he referred to Cosby as a rapist. "The original video of Buress’s performance went viral. This week, Twitter turned against him, too, with a meme that emblazoned rape scenarios across pictures of his face."

Cosby and his spokespeople reportedly failed to return calls to comment on Bowman’s allegations to The Post. He has also repeatedly denied that he sexually assaulted Constand.

In the Post article, Bowman said she will be actively fighting to change legislation that puts a statute of limitations on sexual assault, pointing out that many young victims are unable to deal with the trauma until they are older.
