Monday is President Barack Obama's 53rd birthday, and he celebrated with a golfing weekend and a quiet day at work.

Obama was at Camp David over the weekend, celebrating his birthday on the golf course and with friends and family, The Associated Press reported. Three childhood friends from Hawaii were at the party.

With no public events scheduled for Monday, Obama still had a daily briefing and met with Treasury Secretary Jacob Lew.

The low-key birthday may be the result of what AP called a “trying stretch” for the White House.

Evidence of those difficult times — both domestically and abroad — came as the GOP rallied people to sign up to deliver a copy of the U.S. Constitution to Obama for his birthday.

“President Obama has made it clear that he has a pen and a phone, and that he is willing to go around Congress and the Constitution to get his way,” GOP.com said. “So for his birthday, the RNC is delivering a copy of the U.S. Constitution to the White House so Obama can read it before he picks up his pen or phone.”

Others, notably Democrats, made an effort to wish the president a good day. Organizing for Action offered an opportunity for people to send Obama a birthday card.

But many birthday wishes weren’t really happy.

Someone in Russia marked the occasion by making a political statement, although The Washington Post said it’s unclear who was responsible for a banner depicting the president as each of the three wise monkeys — see no evil, hear no evil and speak no evil — except it reads "Don't see. Don't hear. Truth for no one."

The banner is supposed to be a statement about the United States’ handling of the Ukraine situation, the Post said.
