A Texas bank teller stole $1.25 million over a 10-year period, prosecutors allege, and she could spend 30 years in prison for her crime.

Jill Myers, 42, served as head teller of the First National Bank Edinburg, Texas, branch during the time of the thefts. Prosecutors said Myers changed bank records and stole money in small denominations each day, adding up to about $10,000 a month beginning in June 2004 and continuing until her actions were discovered in June 2014, according to UPI.

Myers was charged in federal district court and pleaded guilty Tuesday to falsifying bank records, which is punishable by up to 30 years in prison and/or a $1 million fine.

When First National Bank was bought by Dallas-based PlainsCapital Bank, the books were audited and Myers’ alleged theft was uncovered. The audit showed about $10,000 a month was missing from the branch’s vault, The Associated Press reported.

Myers acknowledged that she created fraudulent entries in bank records to hide her thefts, the AP said.

U.S. Attorney Kenneth Magidson said Myers will pay back at least some of the stolen money on top of the prison sentence and fine, if any.

The former bank teller is free on bond until her sentencing in April, UPI reported.
