A Bangor stabbing suspect was arrested by city police Tuesday after attacking two people at a local mall, according to Detective. Sgt. David Bushey.

Elizabeth Ellis, 34, has been charged with two counts of aggravated assault, felonies that could cost her up to 10 years in prison and $20,000 in fines, the Bangor Daily News reported.

She is accused of stabbing two people about 20 minutes apart on Tuesday at the Bangor Mall, one at the American Eagle store and one inside the J.C. Penney's bathroom, police told WCSH.

“The victims did not know the suspect. These appear to have been random acts,” Bushey said in a news release.

Police officers found the two female victims with a single stab wound to each of their shoulders. Both were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and later released.

A bystander told WCSH she was in the bathroom during the second stabbing. After hearing someone say, “I've been stabbed,” the witness exited the stall to see the victim bleeding. The bleeding woman told the witness she was attacked while washing her hands when the suspect exited a stall and came at her.

Farmington Police Department Detective Marc Bowering called Bangor police around 3 p.m. with information on the stabbing, according to Bushey.

The police followed up with the information, headed to Farmington, and returned with Ellis in custody. Penobscot County Sherriff’s Office’s tracking dogs assisted Bangor police.

Ellis is being held on $50,000 cash bail at the Penobscot County Jail. Her initial court appearance is expected Wednesday, a jail officer told the Bangor Daily News.

“Our thoughts and prayers go out to the individuals who were injured and we hope for their speedy recovery,” Bangor Mall general manager James Gerety told WCSH. “Bangor Mall is working closely with the Bangor Police Department in the investigation.”
