With all the hoopla over who has decided not to run for the GOP presidential nod as of late, many expected Rep. Michele Bachmann
, R-Minn., to throw her name into the race sooner rather than later. Well, she said Wednesday that she plans to stick to her original schedule to announce her presidential plans in June, the Des Moines Register reported Thursday.
Bachmann is in Iowa today, and there was talk that that’s where she would announce her run for the nation’s highest office. But Bachmann prefers a more orderly approach.
“We want to make sure that what we are doing is deliberate and focused,” she told the newspaper. “We want to be prudent and responsible in the decisions that we are making. So we’ve got our team together, and we’re trying to lay a well-grounded plan.”
Bachmann said she using the same process that she and her husband have used to run their business, to try cases and to plan her family.
“I’m not speaking of birth control,” she said quickly, with a laugh. “I’m just speaking of meeting the needs of our children and our family.”
Bachmann’s supporters have pushed her to make her announcement to run for president at a Thursday Polk County GOP dinner. But the decision will have to wait, she said.
“This endeavor, running for president of the United States, is one of most momentous decisions any American can make, as you can well imagine,” Bachmann said. “We’ve tried to bring together the best minds to come up with the best plan.”
