Bachmann: Democrats' Tea Party Attacks 'Best They Can Do'

By Hiram Reisner   |   Thursday, 01 Sep 2011 04:17 AM

Presidential candidate Michele Bachmann says Democrats’ attacks on the tea party movement is “the best they can do” because President Barack Obama’s numbers are “tanking” and they are desperate. Bachmann also told Fox News’ Neal Cavuto Americans want to see job creation and “Obama is not the man to do it.”

Cavuto noted the latest attack on the tea party was Rep. Andre Carson’s remark that tea party members would like to see black people “hanging on a tree,” and asked Bachmann for her reaction to the Indiana Democrat’s statements.

“Well, this is the best they could do — again, they have no plans,” Bachmann said. “The president’s poll numbers are tanking — they don’t know what to do about the economy because they only have one plan, which is spend more, tax more, borrow more.

“Quite honestly, that is all we have seen — and the president keeps giving speeches to announce he will give another speech that maybe yet one day we will see a plan come from him — and the only inklings that we have are that we will probably see a son of stimulus,” she said. “So all they could do is make outrageous statements about people . . . and this is the only thing people talk to me about, Neil: They want job creation — they want the economy turned around — Obama is not the man to do it.”

Cavuto asked Bachmann about fellow presidential hopeful Texas Gov. Rick Perry’s rise in the polls and whether his ascension is a cause for worry.

“Well, I think it is great to have people come into the race — and, of course, this is natural when you have a new candidate in — that sucks a lot of oxygen out of the room,” Bachmann said. “But we are very comfortable with where we are — and, again, I have been working extremely hard.

“And I look forward to the debates — we have got five debates coming up in a month’s time,” she said. “And I think that people will get to sort out and see where all of the candidates sit, because one thing people know about me, Neil: I have spent my last five years in Washington, D.C., being a champion and a voice for the values and the principles that people believe.”
