Anna Duggar, wife of Josh Duggar and costar of reality TV show "19 Kids and Counting," is the subject of a Virginia woman's Facebook post that has now gone viral across the social network.

"Let's talk about Anna," wrote Jessica Kirkland in the Thursday post, People magazine reported.

"Let me tell you: Anna Duggar is in the worst position she could possibly be in right now. Anna Duggar was crippled by her parents by receiving no education, having no work experience (or life experience, for that matter), and then was shackled to this loser because his family was famous in their religious circle."

After the open letter took off, the essayist told WXIA-TV on Tuesday that she was inspired to share her thoughts after Josh Duggar publicly admitted to cheating on his wife and having a pornography addiction. Those revelations were precipitated by the cyber hack of infidelity website Ashley Madison, and followed earlier Duggar scandals that led to the cancellation of the show.

Kirkland suggested that Anna Duggar "can't divorce because the religious environment she was brought up would blame her and ostracize her for it."

"Even if she would risk that, she has no education and no work experience to fall back on, so how does she support her kids?" she continued.

"We HAVE to teach our daughters that they are not beholden to men like this. That they don't have to marry a man their father deems 'acceptable' and then stay married to that man long, long after he proved himself UNACCEPTABLE. Educate them. Empower them. Give them the tools they need to survive, on their own if they must," she concluded.

Knowing that the essay was somewhat critical of Christianity, Kirkland said she initially hesitated to post it.

"I had a moment thinking, maybe I shouldn't post it," Kirkland said. "Being from Georgia, I have a lot of friends and family members who are devout Christians."

In the end, she said she hoped the piece would be seen primarily about women's empowerment.

"I hope the message stands alone," she said.
