Ann Coulter Defends Men Against 'Epidemic of False Claims of Rape' (Video)

Ann Coulter expressed concern for the men whose lives are being ruined by false rape claims put forth by a University of Virginia student and by "Girls" creator Lena Dunham.

In her Wednesday column for The Daily Caller, Coulter condemned not only Rolling Stone for not doing its due diligence in reporting the alleged and then discredited gang-rape tale of a student called Jackie, but other liberal media outlets like Slate for arguing that regardless of the claim's veracity "sexual assault at colleges and universities is indeed a serious problem."

"If we’re in the middle of a college-rape epidemic, why do all the cases liberals promote keep turning out to be hoaxes?" she wrote in response. "The only epidemic sweeping the nation seems to be Munchausen rape syndrome. What’s next, college noose hoaxes?"

Coulter extrapolated further during an appearance on Fox News' "Hannity" this week, saying feminism has spiraled out of control – to the point of ruining innocent men's lives.

She took particular issue with a common claim put forth by everyone on the left – from President Obama on down – that as many as 20 to 25 percent of women on college campuses are sexually assaulted. Coulter thought that statistic impossibly high, and pointed out the flimsiness of the study that produced it.

More credible studies, she said, have shown that up to 47 percent of rape allegations at an Air Force base were false, with 27 percent eventually being retracted entirely.

In the end, she said the recent false claims don't illustrate a rape epidemic, but rather, "What it illustrates is an epidemic of false claims of rape."

She noted further that book publisher Random House is now amending a rape claim made by liberal darling Lena Dunham in her recent book, and paying the legal fees of Barry, the "college Republican," whom she falsely accused. It all smacks of previous false rape reports like those hurled at the Duke lacrosse team, and put forth by Tawana Brawley, she said.

Before signing off from her column, Coulter also made sure to point out liberal professors and academia as one more source of all the strife. In her signature style, she riffed on universities' tendency to teach people that they are victims of the straight, white patriarchy.

"College must be difficult for white, straight coeds, because it’s so hard to be a victim. You’re not black, you’re not gay, you don’t have leprosy – what can you do to acquire victim cool? Join the rape club!" she wrote.
