Abandoned Puppies Found in Dog Food Bag on Texas Roadside

Eight puppies were found on a Texas roadside, abandoned inside a dog food bag.

Two men heard sounds coming from the bag and opened it to discover the young pups tucked inside, KHOU reported. They took the puppies to the North Houston Veterinary Specialists, who told the news site that the puppies appear to be healthy.

The pups will end up at the Abandoned Animal Rescue, an organization that arranges adoptions in such circumstances.

“All eight puppies are very healthy, happy, hungry, eating well,” said veterinarian David Cradic. “We’re going to keep them overnight for monitoring. We’ll be looking for homes for all eight of these little girls.”

KHOU said that “it’s too early to know what breed the puppies are, but they do appear to be mixed.”

If the online reaction to photos and video of the cute pups is any clue, they should be adopted quickly.

“I’ll take one,” someone posted on Click2Houston’s story.

Abandoned Animal Rescue said on its Facebook page that there already have been calls about adopting the pups, which have adorably been named after Santa's eight reindeer: Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donner, and Blitzen.

AAR said donations are being taken for their care, and the puppies are not yet ready for adoption.
