99-Year-Old Woman Robbed by Teen While Delivering Christmas Cookies

A 99-year-old Connecticut woman delivering Christmas cookies was knocked to the ground and robbed by a teenager Wednesday.

The teenager was charged with third-degree robbery, sixth-degree larceny, and assault on an elderly person, The Associated Press said. His name was withheld because his case will be held in Juvenile Court.

The 99-year-old woman was taking cookies to the LP Wilson Community Center in Windsor when she was knocked down as the assailant grabbed her purse, NBC Connecticut reported. She was not injured.

"This guy took advantage and made her a victim," Capt. Kelvan Kearse, of the Windsor Police Department, told NBC. "Crimes of this type tend to escalate during the holiday season, unfortunately."

The teenager was not caught immediately, but police told NBC right after the incident that they had a suspect.

“It was disappointing to see right before the holidays — obviously as you know — there’s laws and statutes that protect that segment of our population. I know a lot of folks were very upset about it when they heard what the offense was that had occurred,” Sgt. Christopher McKee of the Windsor police told Fox CT.

Many people commented online about the crime.

“Now, normally I’m against burning at the stake ...” another person wrote on a Massachusetts Live story about the mugging.
