An estimated 40,000 bees were revealed to be living under the bedroom floor of a New York resident's home this week after experts were called in to investigate a loud, buzzing sound.

Retired NYPD Detective Anthony Planakis, also known as "Tony Bees," responded to a complaint at a Queens residence Monday and was shocked to discover a huge colony of more than 40,000 bees living in the bedroom floor, the New York Daily News reported.

As the hive was being removed, resident Frieda Turkmenilli recalled her past experience living with the bees.

“I didn’t really pay that much attention,” she told CBS New York. “I just let them fly around. But then the tenants above and the tenants below have allergies, so they got very concerned and they complained.”

It took Planakis more than two hours to remove the entire hive from the home.

In a video by the Daily News, Planakis is seen wearing a bee protection suit and using a small infrared camera to peer inside the massive hive. This video also showcases Planakis carefully removing large chunks of honeycomb dripping with honey.

The bees will be relocated to an upstate farm, according to CBS New York.
