$1 Million 'Wheel of Fortune': Teacher Is 3rd Person Ever to Win Prize

"Wheel of Fortune" awarded a Maryland schoolteacher $1 million, making her the third contestant to ever win the prize.

ABC affiliate WJLA reported that Sarah Manchester, a math teacher from Silver Spring, won $1,017,490 back in May, and had to keep it a secret until the show aired Wednesday night. Manchester gathered her friends and family at a local restaurant to watch the episode, so everyone could party and celebrate once the big win was revealed.

"This is a once in a lifetime event," Manchester said. "I’m just soaking in every minute of it!"

The episode was part of "Wheel of Fortune's" Teachers Week, and Manchester is the third person ever to win the $1 million prize since its corresponding wedge was added to the wheel back in 2008. The episode kicked off the 32nd season of "Wheel," and for those paying attention to host Pat Sajak's Twitter feed, he hinted that it was a special one just hours before it aired.

Seeing as she is a math teacher, Sajak asked Manchester at the end of the show if she'd thought about the odds of winning the grand prize.

"I assessed that the probability was low, but even unlikely events sometimes happen!" she exclaimed.

This week she said she's still not exactly sure what she's going to do with the money, but it will of course be shared with her husband, Dan, and children, Alden and Raina.
