NEW YORK -- Cable TV provider Cablevision Systems Corp. says it had a bigger loss in the first quarter than it did a year ago. But it also says its revenue rose 10.1 percent.

Cablevision said Thursday it lost $31.6 million or 11 cents per share in the three months ended March 31. It lost $26.3 million or 9 cents per share in the same period a year ago.

Revenues is up to $1.72 billion from $1.56 billion.

The report comes a day after Cablevision says it is buying Robert Redford's Sundance Channel for $500 million. It has also bid $650 million for Newsday, which is based in Cablevision's home turf of Long Island.
