World War Against The Successful Must Stop

The world has indeed gone mad.

France, which already has a 35-hour work week, has now adapted a rule which forbids employees from checking work emails after 6 p.m. Clearly they are following in the footsteps of France’s President François Hollande, who currently has the worst approval ratings of any French president.

With a 75 percent tax rate on the successful, as The New York Times recently noted, “the United Nations conference on trade and development reported that foreign direct investment in France plunged 77 percent in 2012,” the sharpest decline of any Group of 20 nation.

France, of course, is doing terrible — unemployment is over 10 percent; among the young it is 24 percent. The nation is reeling and there is no end in sight.

Meanwhile, the leader of the Labor Party in Britain and current leader of the opposition, Ed Milibands, has proudly proclaimed he is committed to "bringing back socialism," vowing to create an "economy that works for working people.”

The son of a Marxist thinker, he wants to bring back 50 percent taxes, pledges  to raise corporate taxes, and is known as “Red Ed” by conservatives. A town in Sweden is testing a 30-hour work week where workers will be paid as if they are working full-time.

In America, Obama has created a system whereby people who believe in self-reliance, economic freedom, and the opportunity to create have been completely and utterly disenfranchised. While taxes continue to rise (as does the deficit), there are one million fewer Americans working today than when Obama took office.

Margaret Thatcher, who died a year ago this week once remarked that, “The trouble with socialism is that eventually you run out of other people's money.” These dangerous policies all over the world are leading to further economic doldrums.

This world war against the driven and successful must stop.
