It is this reporter’s opinion that, having been one of the first column contributors to Newsmax.com, we have the right to do a little bragging.
Newsmax.com continues to soar in Web traffic and popularity. Newsmax.com drew 4.1 million unique visitors during the month of February, up from 3.9 million in January, according to Nielsen/NetRatings.
The Newsmax home page remains the Web leader among independent news sites. It’s our second month in a row that we have been No. 1 in this category.
Christopher Ruddy, editor and CEO of Newsmax Media Inc., is elated. He says it is clear that not only have the readers “discovered us but they like us, and they keep coming back.”
In the unique visitors ratings at 4.1, we are right after the New York Post with a 4.2.
Hillary Clinton’s New Friends
Incidentally, Rush Limbaugh isn’t the only surprise supporter in Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign.
Richard Mellon Scaife, publisher of the Pittsburgh-Tribune-Review, announces he now has a favorable view of Sen. Hillary Clinton and might even endorse her in the Pennsylvania Democratic primary.
One can only ask how this came about.
On the very day his newspaper criticized some of Clinton’s policies, she paid a visit to the Trib’s editorial board. Scaife praised her courage in walking into what could have been a lions’ den.
Scaife was impressed. He said, “. . . a lesser politician — one less self-assured, less informed on domestic and foreign issues, less confident of her positions — might well have canceled the interview right then and there.”
Scaife said he found more areas of agreement with Clinton than disagreement with her, especially on the Iraq war and domestic policy matters. Does all this mean he is ready to recommend that our Democratic readers choose Clinton in the April 22 Pennsylvania primary?
No — not yet anyway. But in all fairness, Scaife and the Tribune said they want to hear Sen. Barack Obama’s answers to some of the same questions posed to Clinton before making a decision.
However, Scaife says it does mean he has a very different impression of Clinton today than prior to their meeting — and it is a very favorable one indeed.
